LIVINGSTON, Ala.—Clare Findley of Cuba, Ala., is the new Miss University of West Alabama. The sophomore business major will represent the 176-year-old institution in the 2011 Miss Alabama Pageant, a Miss America preliminary held in Birmingham in June.
Miss UWA 2011 Clare Findley is crowned by Miss UWA 2010 Maegen Moore.

The daughter of Shelly Findley and Brian and Christina Findley says she is excited to serve as the 30th Miss UWA

“I’m happy to have the opportunity to represent the university I love so much, and I plan to do it with honor and integrity,” said the third-generation UWA student.

Findley will promote skin cancer awareness as her platform this year.

“I hope to better inform fellow students and the community about skin cancer, an issue dear to my heart. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, and it is the most preventable,” she said.

Findley, who sang for the talent portion of the competition, was also named the People’s Choice winner, as the audience voted through monetary donations benefitting the Children’s Miracle Network, the Miss America Organization’s national platform.

Junior Tara Grayson, the daughter of James and Kim Grayson of Hazel Green, was selected as first alternate and talent winner. Junior Brittney Smith, the daughter of Maxine and Tim Smith Locust Fork, won the swimsuit category.
