LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The spring homecoming known as Super Tiger Day began four years ago as a chance for University of West Alabama alumni and fans to return to Livingston and enjoy a day of athletic events and activities. This year’s event will take place Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, offering the same kind of enjoyment for Tiger fans.

Super Tiger Day 2011 will begin with a baseball doubleheader against regional foe Nova Southeastern of the Sunshine State Conference. First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for noon. The UWA National Alumni Association is planning a cookout for all alumni and friends at Tartt Field beginning at 11 a.m.

NSU is one of two opponents from the SSC on Gary Rundles’ Diamond Tigers’ schedule this season. The double dip is the first of two against the Sharks during the weekend.

Along with Tiger Baseball, the West Alabama men’s and women’s basketball teams will continue their push to the Gulf South Conference Tournament as the teams host Valdosta State in the final regular season contests in Pruitt Hall. Craig Roden’s squad – which currently sits second in the NCAA Division II South Region rankings - is making strides toward the program’s first regional appearance since the 2003-04 campaign. Eddie McCarter and the Tiger men’s program stand tied for second in the GSC East currently, and hope to make their second trip to Southaven, Miss. and the GSC Tournament under McCarter. The women tip-off at 2 p.m., with the men to follow at 4 p.m.

“Super Tiger Day has become an annual event here at UWA and we’re excited about it once again in 2011,” said UWA Director of Athletics Dr. E. J. Brophy. “The spring sport schedules weren’t conducive to including football this year, but with three sports playing and the alumni cookout we feel that everyone will still have a grand time."
