The University of West Alabama Fine Arts Department will host the UWA Student Art Exhibition through April 24. The exhibit features award-winning art on display in Webb Hall Art Gallery on the UWA campus.

On showcase is original art by 18 of the students enrolled in UWA art classes for drawing, painting, and ceramics. Award winners include Kori Nadine Armstrong of Emelle and Anne Enoch of Columbiana. Armstrong’s drawing “Factory Farm” won the UWA Purchase Award, and Enoch won first prize for her ceramic sculpture “Blue Horse.”

“Art is communication. The UWA Student Art Exhibit is a great opportunity for the students to engage in artistic dialogue with the campus and local community,” said Nick Davis, assistant professor of art. Davis and Jessica Smith, assistant professor of art, serve as co-curators of the exhibit.

Also featured in the exhibit are Torie Dunn of Shuqualak, Miss.; Crys Joiner and Keonna Echols of Tuscaloosa; Kathy Edwards and Jess Outlaw of Livingston; Rae Potts of Carrollton; Magdelena Galvan of Gallion; Elizabeth Brooker of Demopolis; Kellye Reeves of Decatur, Miss.; Derrick Hall of Boligee; Fannetta Dancy of DeKalb, Miss.; Troy Gibson Jr. of Toxey; Polina Babkina of Placentia, Calif.; Jess McDill of Louisville, Miss.; Hannah Riley of Quitman, Miss.; and Jessica Tucker of Guin.

Armstrong’s UWA Purchase Award winning piece has been purchased by the institution and will be added to the University Art Collection.

Webb Hall Art Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information on academic art programs visit www.uwa.edu/art_minor.aspx or call 205-652-3512.
