Jeff Motz was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He attended Indiana University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in anthropology. While working in terrestrial and underwater archaeology for several years, he produced hundreds of site plans and maps. As GIS technology became more powerful, he studied its application in municipal workflows.
In 2006 Motz received his certification as a Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) from the Geographic Information Systems Certification Institute (GISCI) and Certified Government Chief Information Officer (CGCIO) from The University of North Carolina School of Government. He currently serves as GIS manager for the City of Tuscaloosa, where he has worked since 2000.
