• Laemmerhirt to present at UWA's Brock Y-Hall

     The University of West Alabama continues its 2013-2014 Fulbright Lecture Series as Dr. Iris-Aya Laemmerhirt will present “From ‘Glueck Auf’ to ‘Rock Monarchy: History and Music in the Ruhr Area [Germany]” on Monday, April 14 at 6 p.m. in UWA’s Brock Y-Hall.

    Hosted by UWA’s College of Liberal Arts, Laemmerhirt is a professor of Area Studies at TU Dortmund University in Dortmund, Germany.

    Laemmerhirt is currently a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at University of Virginia’s College at Wise. As part of her Fulbright Fellowship, she is visiting the UWA campus April 13-16.

    Laemmerhirt has published Embracing Differences: Transnational Cultural Flows between Japan and the United States and “Trying to Recapture the Front: A Transnational Perspective of Hawaii in R. Kikuo Johnson’s Night Fisher.”

    She is a member of Salzburg Global Fellow, Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association, International Association for American Studies, Japanese Association for American Studies, European Association for American Studies, and German Association for American Studies.

    A graduate from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Laemmerhirt is fluent is German, English, Japanese and French.
