UWA ONLINE CLASSES
Online students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for financial assistance to attend the University of West Alabama (Federal School Code 001024). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Students and parents of dependent students can e-sign the FAFSA using their U.S. Department of Education PIN number. A PIN number may be obtained online at www.pin.ed.gov. Students must be accepted for admission to the University before their financial aid can be awarded.
Online students are allowed to charge their tuition against their financial aid award. However, students should be prepared to purchase books with their personal funds. Financial aid funds are posted to student accounts approximately two weeks into each quarter. Checks for any remaining balance, after tuition and fees are deducted, are mailed to the student's LOCAL MAILING ADDRESS. The Student Accounts Supervisor will email each student notifying them of their disbursement. Students who need to change their Local Mailing Address should contact the Registrar's Office. Online students are subject to the same deferment and late fees as all other students.
There are five 8-week sessions in the academic year. Students are awarded financial assistance for the entire academic year (fall through summer) or balance of the year. Students must reapply for financial aid annually. They should apply as soon after January 1 as possible for the upcoming fall quarter.

Students are allowed to enroll in a combination of on campus and online classes. Enrollment status and eligibility for funds will be adjusted when the additional classes for the term begin. Students must be enrolled at least half-time to qualify for financial aid, including student loans. Half time enrollment for graduate students is 3 credit hours and for undergraduate students 6 credit hours.
Dropping and Adding Classes: Eligibility for funds is determined on the day that funds are transferred from Financial Aid and posted to student accounts. No adjustments are made for enrollment status after that date.
Direct Loans: First time at UWA students must complete Direct Loan Counseling and sign a Master Promissory Note here.
Veteran's Benefits: UWA participates in all programs offered by the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs. Students needing information about the Veteran's Benefits Programs should contact Mr. Clarence Egbert in the Registrar's Office.
